FAQ
Do I need to have specific body measurements?
-
Not really. We do have a desired size range in order to achieve the aesthetic of the characters we portray. Generally for females this is a dress size 6-8 and shoe size 6-7, or measurements within the following ranges: height 155-170cm, bust 75-95cm, waist 55-75cm, hips 75-100cm. However, many of our costumes have duplicates of different sizes or are designed in a way that the sizing is able to be altered. So please do not be discouraged to apply if you don’t have those exact measurements outlined above! If we really love you as a character performer, we may be able to make new costumes to fit your measurements.

Can I have tattoos?
-
Yes you can. The characters of course do not have tattoos, so you do need to appear as though you don’t have tattoos, but a lot of costumes cover large proportions of your body so a lot of the time, tattoos are no issue at all. Small tattoos can often be covered easily. If a large proportion of your body is covered with tattoos, this may be issue, and may reduce the characters you can portray.
Do I need to be able to sing?
-
No. If you can sing, you will be more likely to be accepted, but it is not a requirement. You may however be restricted to characters that don’t sing or events that singing is not required.
Do I need to be able to dance?
-
No. Most characters don’t dance, and the ones that do, we keep it very simple! Many characters have particular movement characteristics, but all of that will be taught in training.
Do I need to have acting experience?
-
No you don’t. If you do have acting experience or demonstrate high levels of acting proficiency, including voice changes, accents, etc. you will be much more likely to be accepted, but again it is not a requirement. We may still be able to find jobs for you!
Do I need to have a blue card?
-
No you don’t. If you don’t have a blue card, you will just not be invited to do jobs that require you to have one. But there are also some jobs that don’t require you to have a blue card.
Do I have to audition for one of your characters?
-
No. We are always adding new characters to our cast. If you suit a character we want but don’t yet have, we can make it happen!
Are you only looking for girls?
-
No, we are looking for male performers as well.
What does the job entail?
-
We mainly do children’s birthday parties, but we also do appearances at shopping centres, movie cinemas, schools and kindergartens, as well as for charity events for hospitals or larger charity organisations. In most of these appearances, the job of the character performers is largely just to greet and take photos with people. At birthday parties, there are sometimes other responsibilities involved such as running party games and activities.
Is it a full time job?
-
No. This is a contract job - you will be subcontracted for each appearance you undertake. The amount of appearances you do is entirely dependent on how often YOU get booked. Some of our actors get booked up to 20 times in a month, while others only get booked once a month or less. Most of our performers are university students and have other jobs. This is a great job if you’d like a little extra cash from a very flexible and fun opportunity.
